Freemasonry is the U.K.'s largest secular,
fraternal and charitable organisation. It teaches moral lessons and self
knowledge through participation in a progression of allegorical two-part
plays. Lodge meetings are in two parts. As in any association there is a
certain amount of administrative procedure - minutes of last meeting,
proposing and balloting for new members, discussing and voting on financial
matters, election of officers, news and correspondence. Then there are
ceremonies for admitting new
Masons and the annual installation of the Master and appointment
of officers. The three ceremonies for admitting new masons are in two parts
- a slight dramatic instruction in the principals and lesson.
The founding of this lodge was primarily the dream of a member of the Parachute Regiment, the late W Bro Les Petty,
LGR; but like Freemasonry in general, whose branches are spread over the four quarters of the globe and whose membership is drawn from many different professions and occupations, the founder members were also drawn from diverse walks of life.
At a meeting
of the founders on 29th March 1988 it was the original intention to have the
title "The Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces Lodge", to encircle the
camaraderie of the airborne forces in general. This being too long a name, a
compromise was suggested that the name of the Lodge be 'The Parachute
Regiment Lodge' but using the Airborne Forces motto "Ad Unum Omnes" not "Utrinque Paratus" of the Regiment, thus, neatly encompassing both into a Masonic emblem. This proved acceptable and the Lodge was consecrated on the 5th June 1989, one of the honorary members being the founder of the Regiment, the late R W Bro Brigadier E W C
Flavell, who followed the progress of the lodge with a keen interest. |
